This post is exclusively for viewers of one of my other sites (WowHumor), so if you’re not from there then don’t feel obliged to waste your time reading onwards. For those of you coming from WowHumor’s main page, then please read on.
WordPress can be two things.
On the one hand, WordPress can be a very handy platform for making websites. It comes ready-made as a content management system and anyone who is familiar with the way it works can alter it to do anything they want since it also comes with it’s own API and framework. On the other hand, WordPress can be a bitch. It seems that this is the hand I’ve been dealt.
As viewers of WowHumor may know, I haven’t been actively updating the website. This is for a few reasons, none of which include willing negligence.
One of the main reasons for this lack of update is that a few months ago I moved to a rural area roughly 40km from the city I previously lived in. Unbeknownst to me at the time, this far out doesn’t have high-speed internet access. Therefore I am pretty much forced to use dial-up, and anyone who has ever used dial-up will know how excruciatingly painful it is to use. Even more-so if you’re a website owner, web designer or developer, or pretty much have anything to do with the internet.
This means that updating WowHumor is rather difficult and whilst there are a handful of images I want to add to the website, it’s currently rather difficult for me to do anymore than simple text updates.
Another issue is that finding images is difficult due to the slow download speeds of dial-up, and I haven’t actively played World of Warcraft since early-March. Due in part because of the dial-up issue. Not being able to play World of Warcraft obviously makes it incredibly difficult to actually get pictures, as most of you are aware of.
In any case, these are not the reasons why the website is down now, I just figured that loyal viewers deserved a proper explanation of why the website has felt rather barren over the past few months.
The reason the site is down now is because WordPress updated from 2.x to 3.x and I foolishly decided to automatically update WowHumor to this newer framework. It’s a good thing because of the security updates 3.x updates entail but overall it is bad because many of the custom changes I made to some plugins and themes have no effect anymore (the theme I modified for WowHumor, for example, does not currently work with the current WordPress revisions). Alongside this, the site is also having database issues for some odd reason and my hosts control panel seems to be glitching out, to which I may understand why but won’t bore you with the details.
In any case, I’d like to formerly apologise for any inconvenience this may cause some of you viewers, as well as to let you know that I haven’t abandoned you and will try and update the website as soon as possible. If you’d like to lend a hand with the sites development such as sending a picture or two, or even just giving your feedback, then feel free to email me directly at mrtastix[@]wowhumor[.]net (remember to remove the square brackets).
